Valentine’s Day on a Budget

We’ve all heard about the global credit crisis.  Whether you’ve been directly affected by it or think you should cut back just in case, here are some ideas to help you celebrate this year on a budget, or no budget at all.

  • Picnic in your lounge room.  Lay a picnic blanket on the floor, dim the lights, light some candles.  Lay out lots of pillows.  Enjoy a meal together.  Make sure it’s picnic food and feed each other some grapes or choc dipped strawberries for dessert.
  • Buy a bouquet of seasonal flowers – they are much cheaper than red roses.
  • Make your partners favourite dinner to celebrate and make sure you cook all their favourite sides.
  • Write a letter or a poem.  Tell your partner that this year you don’t want any gifts and that you should exchange letters instead.
  • Have an Italian night at home.  Light some candles, cook an easy pizza/pasta dinner together (making pizza dough from scratch is fun).  Put on some Italian music and enjoy a glass of Vino.
  • Meet your partner for a picnic at their work at lunchtime.
  • Place a flower on your partner’s pillow.
  • OR if you really have no idea – get yourself a case of Amnesia and claim you forgot all about it!!!

For those that still want to send a gift, we have put together a range of budget gifts this year . . .  because it’s the thought that counts and not how much you spend.

We encourage you to place your ideas in our comments so we can post your ideas on our blog.  Enjoy your day.

Christmas Quotes for your Greeting Cards

Need some ideas to add something special to your Christmas cards this year? A meaningful Christmas quote is a great idea. Why don’t you handwrite a quotation that suits your personality on your greeting card this year and send some extra special meaning this year. Here is a compilation of some of our favourite holiday quotes. We hope you find a favourite of your own:

“Christmas is doing a little something extra for someone.” Charles Schulz

“Peace on earth will come to stay,
When we live Christmas every day” Helen Steiner Rice

“We make a living by what we get but we make a life by what we give.” Winston Churchill

“Christmas… that magic blanket that wraps itself about us, that something so intangible that it is like a fragrance. It may weave a spell of nostalgia. Christmas may be a day of feasting, or of prayer, but always it will be a day of remembrance — a day in which we think of everything we have ever loved.” Augusta E. Rundel

“Never worry about the size of your Christmas tree. In the eyes of children, they are all 30 feet tall”. Larry Wilde, excerpt – The Merry Book of Christmas

“Remember, if Christmas isn’t found in your heart, you won’t find it under a tree.”
Charlotte Carpenter.

“My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?” Bob Hope, American film actor and comedian.

“Christmas gift suggestions: To your enemy, forgiveness. To an opponent, tolerance. To a friend, your heart. To a customer, service. To all, charity. To every child, a good example. To yourself, respect.” Oren Arnold

“Christmas is a necessity. There has to be at least one day of the year to remind us that we’re here for something else besides ourselves.”
Eric Sevareid (1912-1992), American newscaster.

“Never worry about the size of your Christmas tree. In the eyes of children, they are all 30 feet tall.”
Larry Wilde, author of ‘The Merry Book of Christmas’.

Christmas Gift Card Messages

What do I write on a Christmas card? What do I say in my Christmas message? That depends on who you’re writing to and the sentiments you want to convey. With the thousands and thousands of gifts that Basketville Australia sends out every Christmas, we see many gift card messages. Some are the usual ‘Merry Christmas, love from . . . ‘ to some very elaborate and creative messages. Some have alot of meaning. We have found our business clients like to write something special to show that extra personal attention.

Good luck with your Christmas cards. I know my cards get written in August . . . otherwise they’ll never happen!! Please leave your card suggestions in the comments box if you’d like to contribute.

– May your home be blessed with laughter, love and happiness. All the best for the season.
– Christmas is a time for sharing with family. May you enjoy the precious moments spent with them.
– At this time of year we’d like to say how much we appreciate not only your business, but your continued support. We wish you all the best for the holiday season. -SP.
